Myerscough training just the job

Myerscough College’s Short Course Unit recently provided training for staff from Allan J Hargreaves Plant Engineers, based in Thornton Cleveleys. This involved two members of their staff completing the College’s brand new “Inspection of Construction Plant Machinery” training and will provide competence evidence, required by the Rail and Construction industries, in order to assist them with their day to day work for the company. Keith Goodwin and Marc Crack spent two days at the College working alongside staff from the Short Course Unit and the Crane Academy, before a final day which saw the tutors visit them on their own site. Topics looked at during the training included outlines of different safety regulations, areas of responsibility, the inspection of different types of equipment, practical inspection exercises, the recording of inspections and reporting defects. Allan Hargreaves commented: “It was quite a commitment to send Keith and Marc on the training but we are very pleased with the way the training content was structured to meet our specific needs. The professional delivery of the training package by College and its staff can only be commended”. The newly developed course gives employers an opportunity to gain staff training, in this specific topic, here in the North West as opposed to travelling further South to other similar training providers. The saving in time and travel being a key issue. Course Tutor, John Holden, added: “We have been delighted with how this pilot training has gone for Allan J Hargreaves Plant Engineers and hope that we can develop further links with other companies in the future.”
