The first phase of Doha’s planned metro will be commissioned in 2019, according to the newly-appointed project management team.
A Systra and Parsons joint venture has won a €170 million contract to oversee the delivery of the project ahead of the Qatar World Cup in 2022.
Phase 1 will consist of around 85 kilometres of urban and interurban railway. The full 200-kilometre network will be made up of four lines, costing somewhere in the region of €15 billion.
Systra will be responsible for the signalling and automation systems.
