Egis lands Salvador Metro contract

Engineering firm Egis has won a €12 million contract to oversee systems management and integration on a new metro system being delivered in the Brazilian state of Bahia.

Egis will work alongside build-and-operate concessionaire Companhia de Concessões Rodoviárias (CCR) which is currently constructing the new urban rail system in Salvador – the first section of which should be open in time for the 2014 World Cup in June.

The new network will comprise of two lines, totalling 36 kilometres. Trains are expected to start operating on the first section of line 1 in time for the World Cup, with line 2, which will provide a link to Salvador’s international Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães airport, scheduled to open in 2017.
