Komatsu Terrarailer 320
Ideal for job sites with limited space or in urban areas, the Terrarailer 320 is our heaviest-lifting rail excavator, suitable for all heavy-lifting operations.
Komatsu Terrarailer 320
Our new Komatsu PW160-11 rail excavator, "Terrarailer 320," is fitted with a friction-drive type 9b rail axle and a GKD space guard.
Following the success of the Komatsu PW160, the 320 Terrarailer has been refined for heavy lifting operations. Weighing in at 32T, combined with an underslung dipper configuration, uprated boom cylinders and optimised boom geometry, makes this specialised machine best in class.
With interchangeable dippers (5.5m & 2.1M), the machine can be easily adapted to the job in hand. Hydrostatic drive axle options are also available. Joystick steering, an integrated tool control system, allows the setting of flows and pressures for the auxiliary services with preset modes in the display for different attachments.

Machine Applications for the TerraRailer 320
The TerraRailer 320 is a compact, powerful and highly versatile Road‑Rail Vehicle designed to deliver exceptional performance across rail maintenance, construction and support operations. Its robust build, strong hydraulic capability and agile manoeuvrability make it an ideal solution for worksites requiring reliable lifting, precise control and efficient on‑track mobility.
Rail Maintenance & Renewal Operations
The TerraRailer 320 is engineered to excel in core rail maintenance tasks, offering the stability and hydraulic strength needed for demanding on‑track work.
- Track maintenance — Sleeper handling, ballast movement, drainage works and general track repairs.
- Rail renewal support — Assisting with rail removal and installation, supporting renewal trains and handling heavy components.
- Lineside maintenance — Vegetation clearance, embankment shaping and ditching operations.
- Switch & crossing work — Precision lifting and placement of S&C components.
Its compact footprint allows it to operate safely and efficiently in restricted rail corridors.
Construction & Civil Engineering Applications
With its strong hydraulic output and multi‑attachment compatibility, the TerraRailer 320 is equally capable in construction and civil engineering environments.
- Earthworks — Excavation, trenching, grading and formation works.
- Material handling — Lifting pipes, beams, concrete elements and structural materials.
- Utility installation — Cable laying, duct installation, drainage construction and foundation support.
- Site preparation — Clearing, levelling and small‑scale demolition support.
This makes the TerraRailer 320 a valuable asset for mixed rail‑and‑civil projects.
Specialist Road‑Rail (RRV) Operations
Designed for seamless road‑to‑rail transition, the TerraRailer 320 offers rapid deployment and flexible movement along the track.
- Rapid response operations — Quickly reaching fault locations or emergency worksites.
- Confined‑space operation — Ideal for tunnels, narrow corridors and restricted access zones.
- Precision positioning — Fine control for tasks requiring accurate placement.
- Support for larger RRVs — Transporting tools, assisting with setup and providing supplementary capability.
Its lightweight design reduces track loading, making it suitable for sensitive infrastructure.
Attachment Compatibility & Multi‑Function Use
The TerraRailer 320 supports a wide range of attachments, allowing it to adapt to multiple operational roles.
- Hydraulic tools — Breakers, cutters and compact work tools.
- Vegetation heads — For lineside clearance and brushing.
- Material handling attachments — Grabs, clamps and lifting aids.
- Inspection equipment — Cameras, sensors and measurement tools.
This versatility enables rapid task switching and improved productivity across multi‑discipline rail projects.
Digital & Operational Integration
The TerraRailer 320 can be equipped with modern digital systems to enhance operational oversight and fleet management.
- GPS tracking — Real‑time location monitoring across the rail network.
- Geo‑fencing — Controlled operational zones for safety and compliance.
- Telematics — Monitoring performance, utilisation and maintenance needs.
- Shift‑based deployment — Ideal for maintenance and construction shifts requiring flexible support.
These features help maintain visibility, improve safety and optimise machine utilisation.
